01. Intro power quality

Power quality is an important factor for many, but often is this underestimated. In factories can power quality problems introduce production errors that can be difficult to quantify. In private homes can it lead to malfunctions in appliance. The term “power quality” covers many aspects from under-voltage, dropouts, harmonic distortion, and high frequency noise. There are multiple sources of error and parameter that sets the power quality.

Locating and solving power quality can be a big puzzle. First has the problem to be characterised, measured over time and multiple places as time synchronized data. The data has to be analysed and with good knowledge can the problem be solved.

Throughout the course, studens will review examples of general technologies that are disturbed by poor power quality and the factors that address specific systems. Problems can both rise in the electricity grid, where for example, wind turbines can pose challenges or at a manufacturer where errors occur as a result of incomprehensive production.

02. Theory: Harmonic currents in practical use

It can be a big challenge to find the cause and then solve a problem. This course provides
participants with an understanding of power quality terminology and the use of analytics
tools for troubleshooting. Students will obtain an understanding of frequency analysis,
harmonic distortion, high frequency noise and flicker through a working process. Examples
of components that can induce power quality problems are illustrated both theoretically
and through practical exercises.

03. Practice use of power quality logs

Practical exercises and use of instruments are in focus. Det er muligt at tage eget udstyr med og få vejleding i brug af det igennem de praktiske øvelser. Vi ser på hvordan LED-pære, DC-strømforsyninger og frekvensomformer belaster elnettet i individuelle øvelser, hertil kommer nogle cases Rohde Consulting har løst. Hver dag udføres der flere praktiske øvelser.

In the course, studens use standardised class A measuring instruments, which can be
connected to the main supply from 230V-400kV.

04. Qualifications after the power quality course

After the course, the participant can set up and operate a power quality instrument, including interpret of data. In addition, the ability to troubleshoot a power grid. Knowledge of relevant standards and in-depth with EN 50 160.
